Have you ever thought about moving to the south? What if we told you, you could be paid to do so?

In this series, we’ve been traveling to different areas throughout the United States that are currently offering moving incentives that could make it possible for you to own the home of your dreams a lot sooner (1). We take a look at some places you may otherwise would never think about packing up and moving to so you can begin a new chapter of your life.

So, without further ado, let’s hop on a plane to The Shoals, Alabama.

The Shoals is a blanket term for an area of northern Alabama that consists of multiple cities including Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia. With a one-hour flight to Atlanta and a two-hour drive to Birmingham, Nashville, or Memphis, The Shoals’ central location makes it the perfect place for the busy professional to call home.

You’ll be greeted with a temperate climate that is a welcomed relief from the humid subtropical climates slightly farther south. There are plenty of enjoyable opportunities for the avid outdoorsman to participate in with many great natural areas just a short distance away. The Shoals area is nestled right up next to the Tennessee River and Wilson Lake which is a hot spot for all your water sport hobbies. If hiking is more your jam, you’ve got epic state parks such as Monte Sano, Desoto, and Cathedral Caverns all within a two-hour drive.

If you’re more of the artistic type, you’ll find nothing short of inspiration here as there is a thriving creative culture. Florence, specifically, is known for its musical heritage, but also offers great attractions like the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Rosenbaum House which you can tour.

When choosing a new place to call home, it’s more than just what an area has for you to do in your free time. Affordability is another major factor. The median home price in The Shoals comes in under $200,000 for each of the cities, which is quite a bit lower than the national average. The rent-to-own market is nothing short of impressive and has plenty of options for you to choose from. You’ll be sure to get good bang for your buck in these parts.

Much like the other states we have looked at, this one also focuses on bringing a diverse range of remote workers to their state. So, if you work remote and want a different view out of that home office window, Remote Shoals wants to offer you an incredible opportunity to live and work from northwestern Alabama!

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum annual income of at least $52,000
  • Ability to move to The Shoals within six months
  • Have full-time remote employment or be self-employed outside of Colbert and Lauderdale Counties
  • Be at least 18 years old and be eligible to work in the United States

Now, for what we all want to know, what are these great benefits Remote Shoals is offering?

$10,000 Cash

Remote Shoals knows that making a move takes time and careful financial planning, but they want to make it easy for you! With their program, you’ll receive 25% ($2,500) up front to help with relocation costs. After the first six months, you’ll receive another 25% ($2,500) and then the remaining 50% ($5,000) after you’ve been there for one year. They do this to create incentive for you to stay and, in turn, keep their local economies moving in an upward swing.

Low Cost of Living

As we talked about earlier, The Shoals has a very low cost of living compared to the rest of the United States. In addition, property taxes are low as well!

Welcoming Community

Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are so blue! – We won’t judge if you started singing along, too. Alabama is known for its sweet, down-home country folk, but The Shoals has also been working tirelessly to create a diverse community that is welcoming for all. The University of Northern Alabama has a thriving international student community and Remote Shoals is attracting remote workers from across the globe. A diverse society is a great one, and you’ll certainly experience that here.

Creative Culture

As its location is close to the music capitol of the United States, The Shoals is home to a plethora of famous recording studios and has an excellent line-up of music and arts festivals all year long.

So, what do you think? Ready to move yet? Though this isn’t the most impressive program we’ve covered, it definitely shouldn’t be discounted. As we speak, they’re selecting great people like you. It’s never too late to start fresh and this could be the move you’ve been waiting to make.
